The outcome of extensive research that became ATOPOS’s unique publication Not a Toy and following the success of its first presentation at the Benaki Museum in Athens, ARRRGH! Arty Mr.Bones

Posted on December 6, 2012

Art for a charity purpose and Kiehl’s in the middle: A blend blog-worthy.
Famous New York cosmetics company Kiehl’s asked three Athenians to customize their legendary skeleton mascot Mr.Bones. Konstantinos Kakanias, Greece is for lovers and Yorgos Mazonakis did their own version each and all three “Mr. Bones” were auctioned last night at Rebecca Camhi gallery, for  the non-profit organization “Merimna”. Greece is for Lovers used blue glass eye charms, the well-known greek traditional talisman, where Yorgos Mazonakis did a Tsolias version of Mr. Bones.

Apart from the three auctioned pieces, we also had the chance to see Konstantinos Kakanias’ new series of Mrs. Tependri.

Stanley Kubrick: The Photographer

Posted on May 3, 2012

During my small trip to Brussels, I was very lucky to watch the photography exhibition of  top filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, whose early creative efforts as a photojournalist for the New York magazine Look, I was completely unaware of. I was suprised by his large amount of work and completely captivated by the cinematographic viewpoint of it. His lens captures a portrait of America after World War II- a central theme in Kubrick’s films. His themes include crime scenes, the life of a showshine man, a university theater troupe, etc.  Beyond his involvement with society and its social and racial tensions, Kubricks’ photographic work displays a precision of composition that goes beyond mere reporting. Capable of constructing a scene, Kubrick sought to transcend the present…

Marni at Salone del Mobile 2012

Posted on April 3, 2012

Marni presents, during Salone del Mobile 2012, a collection of 100 chairs which have been made in Colombia by ex-prisoners, aiming to reinforce their resettlement into social and working life.  All chairs consist of metal structure and multi-colored PVC threads.

The chairs are linked to the “L’Arte del Ritratto” project through a photo exhibition, created in collaboration with the photographer and filmmaker Francesco Iodice, who will use the chairs as background for a series of portraits of Marni teams from different departments. “L’Arte del Ritratto” is an homage dedicated to them, destined to last in time, which is also accompanied by a video that reports the shooting experience.

The collection of 100 chairs, the photo exhibition and the video will be presented at the Marni boutique and all photos will be published on ANTICAMERA2, Marni’s online magazine on marni.com during the Salone del Mobile 2012. The amount raised from the sale of the chairs will be entirely donated.
