Marni at Salone del Mobile 2012

Marni presents, during Salone del Mobile 2012, a collection of 100 chairs which have been made in Colombia by ex-prisoners, aiming to reinforce their resettlement into social and working life.  All chairs consist of metal structure and multi-colored PVC threads.

The chairs are linked to the “L’Arte del Ritratto” project through a photo exhibition, created in collaboration with the photographer and filmmaker Francesco Iodice, who will use the chairs as background for a series of portraits of Marni teams from different departments. “L’Arte del Ritratto” is an homage dedicated to them, destined to last in time, which is also accompanied by a video that reports the shooting experience.

The collection of 100 chairs, the photo exhibition and the video will be presented at the Marni boutique and all photos will be published on ANTICAMERA2, Marni’s online magazine on marni.com during the Salone del Mobile 2012. The amount raised from the sale of the chairs will be entirely donated.

Lo Spirito Vola

Gucci Museo announced “Paul Fryer: Lo Spirito Vola” as the second contemporary art exhibition of works, on loan from the François Pinault Collection. Curated by Francesca Amfitheatrof, the exhibition presents three of Paul Fryer’s iconoclastic art works on the transcendent, morality and religion: the major sculptural works Ophelia, Pietà (the Empire Never Ended) and Ecce Homo.

Ca’ Corner della Regina & Prada

The Prada Foundation  announced the opening, on May 31 2011, of its new exhibition space in Venice, the Ca’ Corner della Regina, an historic palazzo on the Grand Canal. Belonging to the Comune di Venezia, the building was made available by the Fondazione Musei Civici, which oversees its use and administration, for a period of six years with the option of renewal. Ca’ Corner will open with an exhibition documenting the multiple activity of the Prada Foundation.

Ca’ Corner della Regina is considered the first architectural example to introduce non-Baroque parameters as dominant themes, even if some elements of the prior style remain. Built between 1724 and 1728 by DomenicoRossi for the Corner family of San Cassiano atop the ruins of the palazzo in which Caterina Corner—future queen of Cyprus—was born, it displays an architecture stylistically reminiscent of Baldassare Longhena’s nearby Ca’ Pesaro, the current venue of the Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna.

 With the support of the Prada Foundation, the restoration of the building, which for now will be limited to conservation, has been planned in gradual stages based on the directives of the Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici e Paesaggistici di Venezia e della Laguna, with the help of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.

The rooms of Ca’ Corner della Regina that have been involved in the first phase of conservation, will house the imposing sculptures of Anish Kapoor, Michael Heizer and Jeff Koons. Together they will constitute the entire exhibition space, interspersed with important works by Walter De Maria, John Baldessari, Charles Ray, Tom Friedman, Domenico Gnoli, Damien Hirst, Louise Bourgeois, Blinky Palermo, Bruce Nauman, Pino Pascali, Donald Judd, Francesco Vezzoli and Maurizio Cattelan.

at the opening of Art-Athina 2011 so much interesting art that definitely deserves a revisit and a second tour around. the place was so crowded that prevented one from focusing on the art pieces but on the other hand, contributed to the fun after cutting down the photos to half, here’s my personal choices

a temporary garden

During the 2011 Salone del Mobile, the courtyard of MARNI’s Milan flagship boutique on via della Spiga will become a green parlour. Inspired by the Italian metropolis of yesteryear, plants traditional to Milan’s public parks and private gardens will become part of a special landscaping. Bushes and trees, medicinal and kitchen plants will gather in the city’s center creating a temporary garden. Unique furniture, small tables and chairs made of recycled bases, padded and then wrapped with long strips of pvc, will invite quite repose from today’s urban chaos. Each evening during the Salone del Mobile, the courtyard will come alive with images of Lanterna Magica (Spring) created exclusively for MARNI by film artist, Sara Rossi. A projection of butterflies, water and blossoming trees…

Fendi & Design Miami 2010

Fendi collaborates with the architectural studio Aranda\Lasch on a multi- media installation and performance at this year’s Design Miami/. Part of a two-stage project, Modern Primitives features a collection of furniture and objects that resemble over-scaled minerals, first launched at the 12th Venice Biennale of Architecture in August and culminating at Design Miami/ this December.

In its debut at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the project is installed as a landscape, with the mineral furnishings dispersed loosely across the entry of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in the Biennale Giardini, creating a garden lounge that Biennale visitors are encouraged to explore, use and enjoy throughout the exhibition.

At Design Miami/, the project develops into a collaborative performance that exposes the design process behind the furniture. The pieces initially displayed in Venice are  transformed by Silvia Venturini Fendi through the application of Fendi fur and leather. During Design Miami/, Aranda\Lasch will work on site to construct new designs, growing the installation space itself over the course of the 5-day event, where the fair’s visitors are invited to participate in the performance by creating their own designs.

Together, the different aspects of the installation comprise a synthesis of Aranda\Lasch’s technologically- informed design with Fendi’s legacy of  craft – an experimental exploration of the creative space shared by architecture, design and fashion.
